Do you draw mittens, hands in pockets or behind a figure’s back in order to avoid drawing hands? You aren’t alone! Hands are tough to draw!
Why Draw 25 Hands? One of my favorite exercises with students is to find hundreds of photos of hands and draw a bunch of them on one page. Breaking down the hand into 3D structures over and over again helps us to understand the form so that new hand poses are easier and easier to create with each new figure. If you find that drawing from photographs is a little harder than you feel ready to do, you can search online for other drawings of hands and copy those drawings as a first step. Then move on to drawing from photographs. Lastly, you’ll want to draw from actual hands so you might have to ask your friends and family to model for you!
