About LZM Studio
LZM Studio is located in Austin, TX. We work with schools & individuals who wish to learn to draw across the United States, in Europe (United Kingdom, Ukraine, Sweden, Andorra, France) Turkey, Israel, Australia, Philippines, to name a few countries our students reside - wherever someone wants to learn to draw!
Laurie earned her MFA, Arizona State University & BFA, University of Michigan concentrating on both drawing & ceramics.
Prior to starting LZM Studio, she taught Drawing, 2D Design, 3D Design, Ceramics & Ceramics Chemistry at Arizona State University, Mesa Community College, Mesa Arts Center, Central Arizona College, Middle Tennessee State University, Grand Valley State College, The Contemporary Austin Art School & served as a volunteer docent at the Contemporary Austin. Growing up, Laurie’s Mom served on the School Board of a public school system & was a Teacher’s Aid. She grew up knowing the importance of, not only a great education & the need for equitable access to education, but also knowing the value of great teaching.
Laurie in preschool focused on painting and fast forward a few decades, not much has changed!
It has been two decades since the start of my business & I LOVE what I do.
Every day, I work with interesting, smart, kind humans from all walks of life, all ages & all experience levels in drawing. I get to teach people the beautiful meditation of creating… how to slow down & really SEE things… how to really be present to the things around them, so they may experience their bodies moving with grace to create their own delightful & unique vision of the world.
I work with people to make the world more beautiful. How lucky I am….
In addition to making artwork & teaching students, I now have added the joy of teaching teachers - because making art is a particular skill & teaching is another skill set. Knowing both of those & being able to communicate to different types of learners is the foundational value at LZM Studio. We wish to share the gift of PRESENCE (quieting the mind to perceive true awareness of our visual world), to create ease & mastery in EMBODIMENT (how to move our brain, eyes, hands & the physical matter of graphite on paper) so that all who endeavor may have the practice of a personal expression of beauty.

To teach drawing in private lessons, online tutorials & in person workshops around the world. To create beautiful artwork that reminds us of the quiet, beautiful nature of this world.
