LZM Studio FAQs

How long does learning to draw take?

Learning to draw takes an investment of time to both comprehend the skills being taught AND embodied practice of the skills- getting your hand & eyes to execute the way you wish. Developing hand eye coordination in drawing is similar to the training an athlete or musician goes through to obtain mastery. Most of my students have a solid grasp of essential skills in about a year of 45 minutes per week of practice (about 40 hours). Developing mastery - which is a synthesis of comprehension of the skill set, the purpose & use of each skillset, & where/when to apply it in unique situations - happens at very different speeds for each individual, based on previous skills when starting, deliberate practice time & feedback on that practice. This usually occurs I don’t require homework but am happy to assign it if you wish for an accountability partner to speed up your growth.
