LZM Studio FAQs

How long does learning to draw take?

Learning to draw takes an investment of time to both comprehend the skills being taught AND embodied practice of the skills- getting your hand & eyes to execute the way you wish. Developing hand eye coordination in drawing is similar to the training an athlete or musician goes through to obtain mastery. Most of my students have a solid grasp of essential skills in about a year of 45 minutes per week of practice (about 40 hours). Developing mastery - which is a synthesis of comprehension of the skill set, the purpose & use of each skillset, & where/when to apply it in unique situations - happens at very different speeds for each individual, based on previous skills when starting, deliberate practice time & feedback on that practice. This usually occurs I don’t require homework but am happy to assign it if you wish for an accountability partner to speed up your growth.

LZM Studio Drawing Method Course FAQs

  • If you’re a total beginner, start with course 1! If you have mastered basic outlines & perspective you could skip to Course 2 to focus on more advanced ideas of achieving depth & shading. If you have all those skills under your belt & you’re wondering how to develop your own drawing style & are running into mental roadblocks in your drawing practice, skip to Course 3.

  • I recommend you review the material & practice that course material for the remainder of the month. I practice the basics every time I teach a new student & it both maintains & enhances my skills. A few days before the end of your month commitment, login to your account to cancel the plan you are on to ensure it doesn’t go through again & purchase the next class.

LZM Studio Private Lesson FAQs

  • Private lessons are 1 on 1 for 50 minutes, Monday through Thursdays from 10am-6:30pm CST, Fridays from 10am-5pm CST. Private lessons occur weekly, biweekly or monthly. Group workshops must be booked a month in advance to account for ordering supplies & changes impacting private lesson clients. Contact me to see what days/times I have available- it changes all the time!

  • After your first private lesson I’ll send you an email to see if you felt like my service was a fit for your needs. If you opt to continue, I will then start monthly billing. Monthly, I’ll send an email with the dates reserved for the month for you to review & will charge your credit card on the 1st of the month for the upcoming month. For clients outside of the US, I’ll send a PayPal invoice & charge a $30USD late fee for invoices paid 7+ days late.

  • I guarantee one reschedule per year when my after school/work time slots are full. Additional reschedules are possible on a case-by-case basis if I have openings available. Learning to draw takes an investment of time, so sporadic attendance makes it more difficult for you to make progress.

  • Refunds of prepayment of private lesson fees will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but are not gauranteed.

  • Additional private lesson information can be found here. These must be signed & returned by your first lesson.

  • You’ll need these art supplies in order to be able to do all the lessons in our private drawing lessons.

In the studio I provide non-consumables (rulers, pencil sharpeners, dusting brushes, desktop vacuum, still life materials to draw, etc). You must bring your paper, pencils, erasers to each class. Forgot your supplies by accident? No problem - I have loaner supplies to share for that session.
