LZM Studio Founder Story (Part 6 of 22)

Part 6 of 22: I know just how painful it is to want to draw & know your drawing isn't great, but not know how to fix it. Let's be honest, too: watching videos of people who have already mastered something doesn't fill in those gaps, either. If what you're craving are slow, step-by-step drawing instructions & calculated skill building that will help you work on any drawing -not just the one drawing in a tutorial you're watching at the moment - you're in the right place with the LZM Studio Drawing Method.

LZM Studio Founder Story (Part 5 of 22)

Part 5 of 22: The idea that drawing is something you're either born with or not isn't really the whole picture, however. Remember that feedback loop (practice, praise, problem solving, practice, praise, problem solving)? That is what mastery is. Its a series of working steps followed by small wins. Repeat until you're cross-eyed. So while I figured some things about drawing out as a youngster, that was not enough to build a successful drawing or teaching career. The rest? Working at this harder than anything else I've ever worked with. I would like to guide you, so you don't have to figure it all out yourself like I did! There aren't a ton of shortcuts to your growth, but being able to intellectually understand where you are & what you need to do to fill the gap? That is my biggest gift I give to students. You will have to put in the work to get your hand to make the moves you want it to make. But I can definitely impart the knowledge so you know what you're aiming for with each new drawing!

Part 4 of 22: Do you remember sitting for hours doing something that was playful when you were a kid? How time flew by, you were at peace? You do something well; someone complements you & you like that praise; so you do the same thing again. In that loop, what is happening is skill building. You're making mistakes, correcting errors, learning & trying again. It feeds more success, because you're practicing. Let's get you back in that regular drawing practice loop so you can start seeing rewards, again.

Student Memorial: Gordon

Gordon was such an enthusiastic student of art and contributor to his communities. He started drawing when his cancer treatments caused him to stop being able to play the trumpet, something he had always done. Needing a new hobby, he found me and jumped in to learn to draw. He was always bringing extra supplies to share, sending me ideas about galleries/artists/classes and contributing photographs he'd taken on his travels throughout the US.
